An Easy Handmade Christmas Gift: Homemade Candles

Melt Wax Flakes
Break up your wax. Find the flash and melting point of the wax you're using. Knowing the melting point of your wax before heating it will give you the best results. Place a large pot onto an element. Fill it up with about 5.1 cm of water. Afterwards, place a smaller pouring pot into the large pot with water. It is fine for the water to boil but do not let any water get in the wax.
Using a double broiler, melt down the soy wax flakes. Stir with a wooden dowel until completely liquefied — about 80*C

Let Cool
While cooling, attach a wick to the bottom of the jar using a glue dot. Twist a wooden dowel around the wick to help keep the wick upright when pouring the wax into the jar. Top tip: If you add the fragrance oil while the wax is still over the heat, you risk the scent evaporating away.

Add Essential Oils
If the wax is too hot, it can destroy the active compounds in your oils and dampen the scent. Too cool and the oils might not evenly disperse throughout the wax. The ideal temperature for adding your essential oils is 85*C degrees.

Pour Scented Wax
Carefully pour the wax into the jar. Allow to sit for 24 hours. Use scissors to cut the wick.
