Solid hardwood flooring is all real wood. It can be sanded and refinished many times. However, it’s easily changed in humidity, and isn’t recommended for cold rooms.

Engineered wood flooring is composed of two or more layers of wood in the form of a plank, the top veneer is always real wood. This gives engineered wood excellent stability over time and makes it a good choice for any area of your home, including cold rooms. However, engineered wood floor can only be sand and polished for one or twice based on its nature.

The main characteristics of both types are very common. Solid wood flooring usually needs to be site-finished, which means they are not ready to use after 1st installation, nailing, sand and polish jobs need to be performed afterwards.

However, engineered wood floor are usually pre-finished, so it will be usually ready to use after installation.

As most engineered floors have their patented installation system, the installation is very fast. Compared with real wood floors, it normally saves you ⅔ of time when you consider sand, polish and adjustments that may need to be done.
